Ghorepani Poonhil hot spring trek is a colorful short trekking experience in the Annapurna region. The trail winds through patchwork valleys, dense mossy forests and we will have great views of the high mountains, whole horizons of which will be revealed to you as you reach the high points of your trek. Walking up slowly through rhododendron forests, the majestic Annapurna range reveals itself as you emerge from the forest into Ghorepani. A short hike from Ghorepani will bring you to Poon Hill (3210m), a place of timeless beauty presenting magnificent views of the Himalayan Mountains.
Ghoreani Poonhill hot spring trek offers one of the best views of trekking in Nepal. Enjoy trekking in the spectacular mountain scenery through charming villages inhabited by the Gurkhas people, Dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys, all set below the Annapurnas with the picturesque peak of Machhapuchare (Fish Tail Peak) dominating the skyline. At the climax of this trek, you will climb Poon Hill at dawn to enjoy one of the most spectacular mountain views on earth. As the sun touches the snow-capped summits, the Himalayan giants - Dhaulagiri (8167m) and Annapurna (8091m) along with the jagged edge of other peaks - gradually reveal their grandeur. We drive to Phedi Starting at an elevation of 1130 meter, in a forest that is so overgrazed that it looks like a manicured municipal park we start climbing to Dhampus on the top of a ridge at 1700 meter. The route then enters a rhododendron forest and follows a trail paved with stones to the village of Pothana. From here, we have excellent views of Machhapuchare Mountain (6997m). Machha, meaning fish and puchhare meaning tail, except from this angle it looks more like the Matterhorn then resembling a fishtail. The trail climbs further on a stone paved route to Deorali atop a hill at 2150 meter.
DAY 04. POTHANA/DEURALI- GHANKDURK
We descend then into the canyon of Modi Khola down a rough stone trail to the teahouses at Bheri Kharka, a suburb of the large Gurung village of Bichok, which is far below. After climbing out of the valley following flagstone steps we arrive in the small settlement of Tolka at 1790 meter.
The trail descends a long staircase to a suspension bridge across the Tiku Khola at 1720 meter and then climbs up to a ridge. It is an easy walk past streams, fields and unusual oval-shaped houses to the Gurung village of Landruk. Past this village, our downhill trail leads to the river Modi Khola and then ascends steeply to the Gurung village Ghandruk at 1990 meter. Ghandruk is the second largest Gurung village of Nepal, and is a confusing cluster of closely spaced, slate-roofed houses. The views of Annapurna South from here are amazing, and Machhapuchhare can be seen in its fishtail form (5 hrs).
DAY 05. GHANDRUK-TADAPANI
Today we ascend around 700 meter to the village of Tadapani, meaning ‘far water’, because of the long distance the nearest water supply was from the village. The trail leads us at first over stone paved steps and then we ascent among bigger rocks crossing a few streams on the way (3-4 hrs).

DAY 08. TATOPANI- BENI

After leaving this village we descend along a vertigo inducing cliffhanging trail to the banks of the river. We cross numerous landslides and go through a few cut-out tunnels to Baisari, a small settlement at 960 meter. It is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage sites in Nepal and one of the holiest in the world. It is known as the place where the Buddha, in a previous life as a prince, gave his body to a starving tigress and her cubs. There is a very old temple in the village of Namo Buddha, located below Thrangu Rinpoche’s land, which sits on the top of the mountain. Several lamas have determined that the actual site where the Buddha gave his body is actually on Thrangu Rinpoche’s property near the retreat center. Lumbini lies in the southern Terai plains of Nepal and is about 300 kilometers Southwest of Kathmandu. It is the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam Buddha and is therefore regarded as a sacred pilgrimage site for Buddhists. In 250 BC, Emperor Ashoka built a large stone pillar containing an inscription about the birth of the Buddha. Lumbini bears not only historical and religious significance but also cultural significance. Lumbini Garden, Maya Devi Temple, Tara Foundation, World Peace Pagoda, China Temple, Thai Monastery, Burmese (Myanmar) Temple, Nepal Buddha Temple and Dharmaswami Buddhist monastery are the major attractions of Lumbini. There is a museum and a research center for Buddhism. It is also considered an ideal birding destination as it houses variety of rare bird species. Many high quality hotels, restaurants and lodges are available in Lumbini.
With International support, Lumbini is being developed as the supreme Buddhist pilgrimage and a symbol of world peace. Many countries have built and are building temples, monasteries and stupa near the sacred garden in the International monastery Zone as part of the global initiative to promote Lumbini. The shrines reflect the architectural tradition of the respective countries which gives Lumbini an “International feel” and in hence it’s message of universal friendship and brotherhood.
To the west of Lumbini lies Tilaurakot, the palace area of King Suddhodhan, father of Lord Buddha. Buddha spent 29 years of his life here. Many archeological ruins and findings make the visit worthwhile.

After Breakfast, drive or fly back to Kathmandu.
Beside all above, we still have Few very interesting tour places as follows:
Daman( 1 Night/ 2 Days )
Daman is situated at the elevation 2400m and is the perfect place for those seeking the ultimate pan-Himalayan view and willing to travel the extra distance to find it. It is located 75 km to the southwest of Kathmandu Valley. It offers the only unimpeded view of the entire Himalayan range, a sight guaranteed to leave the early riser spellbound for days to come.
2 Nights/3 Days Bandipur & Manakamana Cable car tour
Bandipur, an ancient Newari mountain town, is a treasure waiting to be discovered by travelers. Situated 7 kilometers above Dumbre Bazaar at an altitude of 1,005 meters, this ancient trading post lies cradled in the saddle of some of the country's most peculiar-shaped hills. Untouched by modernization, and laced with an abundance of ancient houses, temples of great significance, and historical architecture, this medieval-era town boasts of festivals all year around besides offering a plethora of cultures.
The neighboring villages with majority population of Magars, Gurungs, Bahuns, Chhetris, Damais and Sarkis contribute to the cultural diversity of the region. The hilltop town not only overlooks the incredible expanse of the Marsyanngdi river valley, but also offers a breathtaking sweep of the Himalayan range, from Langtang in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west. From nearby hilltops, one can see as far as Manakamana and Gorkha to east, and the great Chitwan plains to the south, among others. Once a bustling commercial center along the trade route linking Tibet with British, the town’s people heartily welcome travelers from near and far. While the Siddha Gufa (the largest cavern in the country) and Patali Dwar (also known as the Gateway to Heaven) are must-sees, this place also offers endless hiking possibilities in the surrounding hills
Cable car ride to the shrine of Manakamana
Goddess Manakamana has since long the reputation as " The wish fulfilling goddess". Thousands of devotees visit the shrine with a strong belief that the goddess will fulfill their wishes.
The shrine is located 6 kilometers north of Mugling on the Kathmandu-Pokhara Highway. This is situated on a prominent ridge (1302m) overlooking the river valleys of Trishuli to the south and Marshyangdi to the west. From here one can see deep valleys, terraced fields and the snow range of Manaslu-Himalchuli and the Annapurna Himal. The spectacular views are truly worth the trip.
The cable cars cover the 2.8-km stretch from Sheres along the highway right up to the temple in less than 10 minutes. Each car has capacity of 6 passengers.

What type of shape do I need to be in, is this trip for me? Back To Questions
This trek is suitable for average people who are moderately fit, thus no previous experience is required. Some physical fitness programs such as running, swimming, hiking is recommended before you embark on your journey. Persons suffering from a pre-existing medical condition or disease must seek medical advice before considering the trek. Whilst on the trek, it is common to experience some discomfort before being fully acclimatized.
To prepare for a strenuous trek you should begin training at least two to three months before your departure. As a guideline, an hour of aerobic exercise three to four times per week would be considered a minimum requirement. The best preparation is bushwalking involving relatively steep ascents and descents. If you can manage a couple of valley floor to ridgeline ascents per comfortable and able to enjoy the trek to the fullest. They are physically strong, sharp-witted and have an incredibly positive attitude towards a life that we would consider extremely tough. There is something about a trek in the Himalaya that draws you back time and time again. For keen walkers it is a paradise and even avowed non-walkers find that one foot just seems to follow the other, drawn by the appeal of what lies beyond.

AMS- Acute Mountain Sickness
Altitude sickness often known as acute mountain sickness (A.M.S.) in general may occur when people ascend too quickly normally in altitudes of over 3000 m. We ensure minimal risk by building in rest days into our trekking itineraries. Most people will feel some affect of altitude, shortness of breath and possibly a light headed, which is fairly common. Acute mountain sickness is very different and normally involves a severe headache, sickness and loss of awareness. In almost every potential case there are enough warning signs to take appropriate action.
Our expert and trained guides will advise you about any health requirements and also altitude sickness while you are trekking, so you should not worry about it, we do however recommend you get advice from your travel doctor or health advisor before you leave. The following information gives you an idea about high altitude sickness and how to minimize the affects.
There are three stages of altitude sickness and symptoms.
1. Normal AMS Symptoms - Should expect but not worry.
Following are the normal altitude symptoms that you should expect but not be worried about. Every trekker will experience some or all of these, no matter how slowly they ascend.
- Periods of sleeplessness.
- Need more sleep than normal (often 10 hours or more)
- Occasional loss of appetite.
- Vivid, wild dreams especially at around 2500-3800 meters in altitude.
- Periodic breathing.
- The need to rest/catch your breath frequently while trekking, especially above 3500 meters.
- Runny nose.
- Increasing urination while moving to/at higher altitudes (a good sign)
- Dizziness.
2. Mild AMS Symptoms - NEVER GO HIGHER
Many trekkers in the high valleys of the Himalaya get mild AMS, admit or acknowledge that you are having symptoms. You need have only one of the following symptoms to be getting altitude sickness.
- Mild headache.
- Nausea
- Dizziness.
- Weakness.
- Sleeplessness.
- Dry Raspy cough.
- Fatigue/Tired.
- Loss of apatite.
- Runny nose.
- Hard to breath.
What to do if a mild symptom doesn’t go way?
- If you find mild symptoms developing while walking, stop and relax (with your head out of sun) and drink some fluids. Drink frequently.
- If mild symptoms developing while walking, stop have rest, drink some fluids and take 125-250mg Diamox. Diamox generally takes one to four hours to begin alleviating symptoms. Drink more water and consider staying close by.
- If symptoms develop in the evening, take 125-250mg Diamox and drink plenty of fluids again.
- If symptoms partially go away but are still annoying it is safe to take another 250mg Diamox 6-8 hours later.
- If mild symptoms continue getting worse try descending for a few hours which may be more beneficial than staying at the same altitude. Going higher will definitely make it worse. You’re here to enjoy trekking not to feel sick.
3. Serious AMS Symptoms - IMMEDIATE DESCENT
- Persistent, severe headache.
- Persistent vomiting.
- Ataxia (loss of co-ordination, an inability to walk in a straight line, making the sufferer look drunk)
- Losing consciousness (inability to stay awake or understand instructions)
- Mental confusion or hallucinations.
- Liquid sounds in the lungs.
- Very persistent, sometimes watery, cough.
- Difficulty breathing.
- Rapid breathing or feeling breathless at rest.
- Coughing clear fluid, pink phlegm or blood (a very bad sign).
- Severe lethargy/fatigue.
- Marked blueness of face and lips.
- High resting heartbeat (over 130 beats per minute)

I truly believe, I was with the 'best of the best' in all ways that mattered. Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions provided me more than I could possibly have imagined. I was treated as family, and that is not easy to find. I look forward to returning next year to Nepal, and I highly recommend anyone thinking of traveling to Nepal, either as a group or solo, to travel with Mountain Sherpa Trekking.
Carol Hoban, USA.
Many thanks for your services, which we received during our trekking in Nepal. It was very good services. We enjoy all moments, what we spent in Nepal and it was result of your excellent work.
Istvan Szucs, Hungary.
Our guide Pasang and Nima were great. Nima always had a warm smile. During one night my wife became very sick with a stomach bug probably due to the food. Pasang, Nima, and another Sherpa carried her on their backs to the next town that had a doctor. This showed how kind and caring the Sherpa culture was. Overall, I would definitely recommend this trip & Company.
Joel, USA.
I am writing to confirm that Mountain Sherpa Trekking are in my opinion an absolutely first class agency.
They are professional, experienced, helpful and always accessible and I would have no hesitation in recommending them or using them again.
Thank you.

I have used Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions twice, first time in 1999 and more recently in April 2008. Both times we trekked and climbed a trekking peak in the Everest/Khumbu region. We found the Agency, Pasang and the staff all to be very helpful, flexible/accommodating and friendly. We came with our own itinerary and they provided exactly what we wanted (the permit, the liason officer/sirdar and a porter). All the porter staff I have seen have been well equipped and clothed with quality gear and from what I understand get quite a good rate of pay. They seem happy and well looked after.
An example of their quality of service is when one of our team arrived in Kathmandu from Canada this year minus one bag, the day before we were to fly to Lukla. He gave the lost baggage details to Pasang with reassurance that he was on the case. We flew to Lukla, and exactly 48 hours later, a porter turned up in Namche Bazaar with the lost bag!! Super service!!
Our porter this year, Dorje Sherpa, was a super friendly, super hard-working fellow who was a good friend by the end of the month. Lots of laughs were had with him!
So many thanks to Pasang, Dorje and all the team at Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expeditions!!

My experience with Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expedition was excellent. This is a Nepalese Company that operates equal to the high standards of an International Tour Company.
I am a 32 year old female who decided to do a 3 week trek in Nepal alone (my husband had to work). After searching the internet, I found Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expedition. Pasang and I emailed many times to set everything up, change the schedule more than once and ask questions. He was so easy to work with and responded very fast to all my emails. It was impressive how flexible he was with the schedule. Pasang provided me with detailed emergency contact information for my husband.
I arrived in country late in the evening, a little unsure what to do, but I had no reason to worry. Tandi was there with a sign to pick me up and deliver me to the Hotel. He confirmed my checked in and arranged for a tour the next day. From the pickup at the Airport to the day Tandi dropped me off for my return flight, every detail was taken care of! I had plenty of time to wonder around the city, but I never once felt stranded.
In total, I spent 15 days on the trial, trekking with Tandi, as my guide, and Tendu, as my porter. Tandi kept the hike interesting, telling me about the region and answering questions. At all times I was treated with utmost respect, as a friend but also a client. Tandi is truly a professional. In addition to being an independent female traveler, I am also a vegetarian. This was not a problem at all – Tandi was very helpful in speaking with the cooks for me.
The trek to Gorkyo Ri, over Cholo Pass to Base Camp was absolutely fabulous. I wish I could be back in those mountains right now. Tandi was great about adjusting the schedule to our hiking speed and interest. Quite on accident, we ended up completing the trek two days early. I told Tandi I did not want to shop in Katmandu for two days, so without any problem he set up an additional outing to the foothills. The plan worked great.
There are no questions that I recommend Mountain Sherpa Trekking & Expedition to anybody visiting Nepal, whether to tour or trek.

Hey Tandi, Hey Pasang!!!
This is James and Hee. We have been back in the USA for about a week now. We are very sorry we haven't written back to you earlier. We just want to say we had a great time in Nepal, and it was made possible by all of you. The plan you put together for us worked out perfectly, we had so much Fun River rafting, bungy jumping, and shopping!! The trekking to Annapurna was tiring, but very much worth it. We took hundreds of beautiful photos; we cannot imagine there is a prettier place on Earth. We would especially like to thank Tandi for being such a great guide and companion. He was very friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable about all the places we went to. It was especially fun meeting his little boy Pemba in Nagarkot. It must be tiring watching Pemba all day long...we have never met a little boy with so much energy!!!
Take care,
James and Hee

Pasang,
Dave and I wanted to express our thanks for such a wonderful trip to Nepal. We feel so fortunate that we booked our trip with Mountain Sherpa Trekking. You, Tandi and Sumba, our guide Rinjee and porter Ngima were all so great. When Dave and I each became ill at separate times we were so grateful that you were so accommodating to our needs. We were able to alter our schedule and trekking route and that flexibility is part of what made the experience so wonderful. The hotel in Kathmandu and each of the lodges that we stayed at were all very good. Rinjee and Ngima were a lot of fun and it was great to be able to meet Rinjee's wife and kids. We will certainly recommend Mountain Sherpa Trekking to anyone. I look forward to the day when we return to do the Everest Base camp trek. Next time we will make it all the way.
Thanks for a wonderful experience. We will see you again about 2 years.

Mountain Sherpa made me feel welcome in Nepal from the moment I arrived till the moment I left. Pasang's scheduling and advice were excellent and he knows the tourism industry. He'll save you money as compared to an American company but never skimps on service because it's Nepal and hospitality is what these friendly people do best. The hotels were clean and comfortable. I did the five day trek to Poonhill. My guide was Tandi Sherpa from near Tibet--he was fun walk with and I always felt safe. The porter was a hearty and robust guy, also a Sherpa. The view from Poonhill was spectacular. During my trip I decided to add one night at Chitwan and not only was Pasang accommodating, I was even able to bathe with an elephant! I recommend this travel service. You get a lot for your money and you never feel used, abused, or cheated. They really care about making your trip great, they'll tell you what to avoid and what are the better things to do. They're nice because they want you to come back, and because people in Nepal are just really cool and friendly. I hope to go back soon!

Greetings to Pasang and staff,
I would like to extend my thanks to everyone at Mountain Sherpa Trekking &Expeditions for meeting and exceeding my expectations. My recent Everest Base Camp/Kalapatar trek and Island Peak climb was a wonderful trip. From the time of my arrival in Kathmandu, until departure, everything with regard to the itinerary unfolded smoothly.I really enjoyed the personal tour of the city with Pasang, and the Nepalese cultural dinner with Tandi. The Marshyangdi Hotel was first class, as was my guide Kaji. He took great pride in sharing his knowledge of the local culture, and of Nepal's incomparable Himalayan Peaks.
To anyone considering the services of Mountain Sherpa I say, "You won't be sorry".Thanks again and Happy Trails,
Ron Lester – USA
Pasang,
Thank you for a well run trek. Our guide was very experienced and was quite sensible about our approach, especially compared to some of the other guides. Overall, the trek was an awesome experience, something I will never forget. There is something amazing about standing on top of one of Nepal's peaks and looking out over the land. Thank you for organizing the opportunity for that to happen for us.
Sincerely
Craig- Australia,Mera peak Expedition- April/May 2007
Dear Pasang,
it is easy to characterize your services: You and your team did an excellent job! Booking via internet is - especially for trekking in Nepal -a big challenge. So many agencies, so many itineraries, so many mountains, so much choice. I found your agency by chance, and my first experiences were brilliant: Very fast response time for answering all my emails, including detailed answers for all my questions. Even when I made a proposal for a change of the itinerary (I added Lobuche peak) you did all your best to realize my plans. During the trek days went by and it seemed that you even made a deal with the Nepalese weather god - perfect conditions for three weeks in a row, so it was easy to reach all my goals together with your excellent sherpa Tendi: the summits of two 6000 meter peaks: Island Peak and Lobuche Peak.
Unforgettable moments!
Pasang, thanks for this wonderful stay in Nepal. I can fully recommend your agency
and its services to other trekkers or mountaineers.
With best regards
Peter from Austria (October 2006)
