The Langtang Valley trek is a wonderful 16 days trek that packs a lot of picturesque punch into a small amount of time. The path scales the Langtang Valley from just 1470 meters at Syabrubesi to hit 3870 meters at Kyanjin Gompa, following the rushing Langtang Khola river past lush jungles and bamboo plantations to a collection of great alpine meadows, glaciers and mountains on the border with Tibet.
We begins our trek from south to north, cross through Langtang national park and follow the classic Tibetan settlements, colorful prayer flags, the complexity of wildlife and culture of the local population is mirrored everywhere along the way. We hike the highest peak Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) from Kyanjin and wander beneath high alpine peaks and cross-beautiful pastures and forested river valleys. The stunning scenery is combined with site exploration as we spent two nights in Kyanjin. We will hike usually 5-6 hours per day.

At Kathmandu international Airport, After Visa formalities complete, we have to come downstairs to collect Luggage and proceed to outside from terminal Building. After morning breakfast we drive out along the north-western hills of Kathmandu. Enjoy the Himlayan views and mountainous lifestyle through the terraced fields and rustic villages. Take Lunch at the Trishuli Bazar before continuing further to Dhunche. From Dhunche, we descent down to Syabrubesi.

After leaving our hotel we cross the Bhote Kosi river by a suspension bridge towards ‘old’ Syabrubesi, a cluster of houses and a school opposite the river. Another suspension bridge carries us over the south side of the Langtang Khola, this river we will be following upwards for the next couple of days. We climb slowly to Doman (1680m) and continue over a rocky ridge to Landslide Lodge and Hot Spring restaurant; named after a small hot spring on the opposite river bank at 1810 meter. The trail now climbs gently up to Bamboo Lodge where we will enjoy our lunch. Opposite the river we will see near vertical cliffs covered with cactuses. After Bamboo we cross the Langtang Khola on a new suspension bridge to the north bank. The forest becomes sparser and drier on this side of the river, consisting mainly of scrub oaks and nettles. We climb steeply on a good trail to Rimche (2510m). We have now finished most of today’s climbing and descend slowly to our selected teahouse where we will spend the night (6 hrs).

The day starts with a gentle climb, but it soon becomes steeper, climbing through a forest of hemlocks, oaks, maples and rhododendron. Beautiful views of Langtang Lirung (7246m) can be seen from the trail. After little more then an hour we pass two lodges in the forest at Gumanchok (2800m), from where we climb to a Nepal army post and a national park checkpoint at Ghora Tabela (2970m). The trail asvends gradually, as the valley becomes wider. We will pass a few teashops at Thangshyap at 3140 meter, where we will have our lunch. The route is now in open country, and passes many mani stones, water-driven prayer wheels and a few scattered Tamang villages before arriving in Langtang. This is a small village consisting of guesthouses and yak farms. The surrounding fields containing buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips and barley have typical stone fencing walls.

Walking through the village of Langtang we will pass many stone mani walls, covered with Tibetan inscriptions to please the gods. It then climbs up gradually past the small villages of Mumdu and Sindum. The trail continues through yak pastures. After crossing the Langtang Khola to its south bank we climb up through a landscape scattered with large boulders to a moraine where we will have the first views of Kyanjin Gompa ahead of us, and the dramatic icefall flowing from Langtang Lirung and Langtang Kinshung (6781m) north of us. Our route weaves through the large boulders to a gompa and from here it’s a short descent to Kyanjin Gompa. It is easy to reach our destination before lunch, allowing time to acclimatize and explore the surroundings. One of the options is a hike to one of the good viewpoints. To the north of Kyanjin Gompa is the Kyanjin Ri (4773m), which is a two-hour climb. From here we have a great view over the mountain range in the west, including Langshisha Ri (6370m), Gang Chhenpo (6388m) and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) (3 hrs, to the viewpoint and back is about another 3 hrs).

Early morning we visit to Tserko Ri (5000m/16,404ft) for mountain sunrise views. After breakfast we stay in Kyajin Gompa to explore a bit more of the Langtang valley. Our trail descends a little to the old abandoned VTOL airstrip, and then follows the river upstream to some herders’ huts at Jatang (3840m). We will continue to climb slowly up the valley until we are surrounded by the mountain amphitheatre with Langshisha Ri, Langshisha Kharka and Dorje Lakpa towering high above us. We will descent back to Kyajin Gompa after our lunch.

Today we follow our route back to Lama Hotel, the trail goes with a few short exceptions most of its way downwards, descending around 1400 meter back to Lama Hotel (5/6 hrs).

We take the same route until we reach the Landslide lodge where we take the upper trail to reach Thulo Syabru. The trail goes up for around 400 meter, and passes a bhatti at U Kyang on the ridge before arriving at the pleasant village of Thulo Syabru, with its many elaborate carved windows (6 hrs).

You take the wide trail ascending up to Dimsa village and the trial continues less steeply, through rhododendron, hemlock and Oak forests to Shin gomba. On the way of your trek you will see imaginary views of Langtang Himala and langtang valley. Shin gomba is very famous place for Yak Cheese. You will stay over night at lodge in Shin gomba (3,330m/10,925ft).

The trail climbs efficiently throughout rhododendron-covered point to the top of the edge and across a forested area. The area in-between Shin gomba and Laurebina Yak is a shelter for the red panda, and rare species that the Nepalese call cat bear. You return to the ridge path and climb a larger path through alpine country to arrive at a Gosainkunda. Discover around the Lakes and overnight stay at lodge in Gosainkund (4,460m/14,632ft).

The first part of the trail climbs further through rugged country passing three more small lakes towards Laurebina La pass (4610m). There is a good view from this pass in both directions. After the pass, the trail descends alongside a stream through alpine country to the national park post at Bhera Goth. We continue descending over a rocky trail along the middle of the valley to Phedi (3740m) for lunch. From Phedi the route drops to a stream and then climbs through scrub bamboo to a crest at 3750 meter. From here we climb in and out ravines across the head of the valley to Gopte (7 hrs).

The trail continues up ravines and across the boulders of old moraines below the wreckage of a Thai Airlines plane that crashed here in bad weather in 1992. Make a final ascent to Tharepati on the ridge at 3490m from where we can see the Helambu region. We will arrive around noon and rest of the day we can just relax (4hrs).

In the morning we walk through the alpine country side with meadows and scrubs typical for high elevation. We will enter the forest again and follow the ridges before descending to Magen Goth.
Two lodges are remaining from a former army camp. The trail gently climbs to a small pass at Mere Danda at 3510 meter before descending through rhododendron forest inhabited by only a few shepherds’ huts. The trail continues further down to Kutumsang from where we continue to the nearby Gul Bhanjyang , which is a delightful classic hill village (6 hrs).

We start by descending down a forested ridge to the long, strung-out village of Thodang Betini (2260m). From here we climb up around 200 meters to the top of the Jhogin Danda ridge and descend over a stone staircase to the teashops at Chipling. Continuing our way down past Brahman and Chhetri villages and through meadows and fields we finally reach Chisopani, which resembles an unfinished tourist resort (5 hrs).

We start the day by climbing up the last pass of the trek at Borlang Bhanjyang, which lies at 2240 meter. From here we descend steeply through deeply eroded chasms towards the Tamang settlement of Mulkharka at 1800 meter. From here on it is a short bit to Sundarjial as we walk past the local water supply system and follow the water pipe to this village. From Sundarijal we can take local transportation, or have our private transport waiting for us to bring us back to Kathmandu (4 hrs). Overnight stay at hotel. Today evening, we organize Nepalese cultural dinner.

We are trekking on a remote mountain, where we could be exposed to bad weather at any time so be prepared for all quickly changing conditions and temperatures. In overall, a down jacket, a warm fleece jacket, thermal underwear, trekking pants and shorts, and sturdy boots are recommended to wear, and a good sleeping bag, backpack, and camera are recommended for your kit. If you take any medication, this should obviously be a packing priority. Utilize common sense - you don't want to end up short-handed on the mountain, but over packing is undesirable. It's worth noting that just about anything you need in the way of trekking clothing and/or equipment can be purchased or rented in Kathmandu when you first arrive. In Kathmandu breakfast is included in the price. Lunch and dinner is not included. However,We will provide you free welcome/farewell dinner at special local restaurant. You will dine in a local restaurant and be entertained with traditional Sherpa & Nepali music with cultural show with traditional Sherpa dance. For Dinner & lunch, There are plenty of nice restaurants located near the hotel and you can also eat at the hotel. It is usually cheap to eat at restaurants in Kathmandu. On the trek you will have to buy all the meals at the lodges. You will eat your breakfast and dinner at the lodge where you spend the night and you can buy lunch on the lodges you pass by during the day. Continental menus are generally available, along with soups, Sherpa stew and dishes of noodles or rice. A typical day’s meals are as follows:
Breakfast is usually fairly hearty, and includes porridge, eggs, potatoes and toast. In some places you can get freshly made chapatti instead of toast. Of course, you’ll also have hot drinks, generally a choice of tea & coffee. Our guides always ensure hygiene meals in lodge.
For Lunch & Dinner entrees, they typically begin with a nice hearty soup/ Sherpa stew and then a main course such as potatoes, Mo. MO., noodles, pasta or plenty of rice. You can add vegetables (usually carrots and cabbage), eggs, cheese, or any combination of these to your carb of choice. In some places you can also have a yummy dessert like mars bar roll & pudding.You can buy clean bottled water as well as soft drinks hot tea, drinking chocolate, coffee and beer in most lodges. There is a welcome/farewell dinner with the guide included on the last evening in Kathmandu.
We highly recommend buying good travel insurance to all our valued clients. Your insurance must cover helicopter evacuation if it becomes necessary, as well as the costs of repatriation should you miss your scheduled flight due to accident, injury, illness or simple bad luck. Your insurance must specifically include coverage at altitudes up to 6000 meters before you can attempt to climb the mountain.
Your insurance should also protect against the ‘standard’ travel dangers, including: baggage delay and the loss of personal items; flight delayed, cancelled or interrupted travel; financial default; loss of employment or layoff; missed connection; pre-existing medical conditions; terrorism; and weather, including medical expenses. Anyone with normal physically fit person can do this trek. The best preparation for nepal treks would be walk everyday. If you can walk uphill and downhill that would even be better. Prepare with cardiovascular exercise many times a week: biking, swimming, hillside climbing and strolling. Go for a four to five-hour walk minimum once a week. Discovery hillsides or high staircases and frequently hike up and down on them.
Generally, You have to walk about 4-7 hours a day with your light day bag in this trek. During the whole trek, our strong porter will carry your main baggage.This will allow you to carry only your light day bag packs. This will certainly help you to complete your trek with enjoyable way.The timing is most important in order to complete this trek without problems. If you want to do it fast, you might run into difficulties. Our itinerary is well plan with few extra days for acclimatization where our expert guide will take you for hike to higher altitudes and sleep at lower altitude.
Last but not least, make sure you always drink enough water. We normally recommend to drinking at least 3-4 liters everyday. Our expert Sherpa guide will be always ready to stop for short breaks whenever you need. once you booked your trek, we will send you more information.
Your safety is our highest priority. Our treks are designed and planned with safety in mind. Your expert Sherpa guide & porters will be equipped with extensive medical kit and other safety apparatus where necessary. They always have access to our 24-hour emergency call. Our leaders (Sherpa guide) are responsible for safety on the trek, and will make any changes to the itinerary they deem necessary should local conditions dictate. Pre-trip administration-such as compulsory medical questionnaires and travel insurance – is all done with your safety in mind.
Once you reach the airport in Kathmandu, our airport representative will warmly welcome you and will transfer to the hotel on a private car. Please note that the transport from Kathmandu to Besisahar will be bus. However, if you would like to go to Syabrubesi on private 4W jeep then it cost an extra US$85 each person on sharing basis.We will help you to arrange comfortable 4W jeep, if needed.
In Kathmandu you will stay 2 nights in comfortable, clean and centrally located tourist category hotel. During 13 nights in trek you will sleep in local family run lodges. The lodges are small guesthouses run by local Tibetan & Tamang families. The property differs, but our guides attempt to be book the best lodges for you, but you must be set, that the lodges are in comparatively basic conditions at higher altitude. You will typically find blankets on the beds, but they are not warm enough at high altitude and you must bring your own sleeping bags on the trek or you can hire sleeping in Kathmandu. Most of the places it is possible to get a hot shower. Please make sure whether the water is heated by solar energy in order to protect the vulnerable forest growth. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 250. Although single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation, it might be difficult to find them at higher altitudes.
